SC prison escape: names are disclosed in error and management is removed

The management of the São Cristóvão do Sul Industrial Penitentiary, in Santa Catarina, was removed after three prisoners escaped and had their names incorrectly disclosed by the unit. The information was released by Sejuri (Secretariat of State for Justice and Social Reintegration), this Monday (25).

The escape occurred last Saturday (23). Initially, when publishing the inmates' poster, the Penitentiary got the names of two of them wrong: Fábio Voytylaki and Victor Goedert. The other, Edilson dos Santos, was the only one whose name was correctly disclosed.

According to Sejuri, responsible for penitentiaries, after an internal audit, the names were verified. Now, Fábio and Victor have been correctly included as fugitives.

"During the initial surveys carried out by the intervention and operational audit teams, divergences were identified in the information preliminarily passed on about the evaded custodians, which is why the conference procedure, data review and internal operational recount were immediately expanded", says the statement.

The secretariat treated the error as a "serious occurrence". As a result, an investigation was launched to investigate the case and penalize those involved. The investigation relies on the direct action of the General Inspectorate of Sejuri.

As a preventive measure, the unit's management and security chief were removed until the investigations were completed.

"SEJURI reinforces that all necessary measures are being adopted with rigor, transparency and responsibility, maintaining the commitment to public safety, legality and the correct investigation of the facts", concludes the note from the Secretariat.
