São Paulo wins the first with Dorival and qualifies in the South American Championship

São Paulo is in the round of 16 of the Copa Sudamericana.

This Tuesday (26), Tricolor beat Boston River-URU 2-0 to guarantee the leadership of Group C of the competition.

Artur and Acosta, against, scored the goals for the São Paulo team. The home victory was Dorival Júnior's first on his return to the club.

São Paulo entered the field depending on itself to advance directly to the round of 16 of the South American Championship.

For this reason, Tricolor started pressing and opened the scoring just four minutes into the first half. In a good move on the left side, André Silva found Artur inside the area. The striker cleared the marker and hit a beautiful right shot into the corner of the Boston River goalkeeper.

Dorival Júnior's team didn't let the visitors breathe, and in the 17th minute São Paulo expanded. Once again, Artur appeared to dribble his marking and shoot low to Calleri, but defender Acosta appeared to cut it and play against his own goal, 2-0.

The rest of the first half continued with São Paulo's dominance, which piled up scoring chances with Calleri, Pablo Maia and André Silva, all of which were wasted.

With a 2-0 lead on the scoreboard, São Paulo slowed down in the second half. With that, Boston River, already eliminated from the South American Championship, went on the attack.

Under pressure, Tricolor made changes and turned to young Lucca and Pedro Ferreira to regain the rhythm of the initial stage.

In the 31st minute, after a cross, Calleri was pulled by Rivero inside the area and the referee awarded a penalty. But the VAR invalidated the move due to the Argentine striker being offside.

With the entry of the young players from Cotia, São Paulo regained control of the game and maintained greater possession of the ball until the final whistle.

The victory at MorumBIS guaranteed São Paulo's direct place in the round of 16 of the South American Championship. Tricolor finished the group stage at the top of Group C with 12 points.

The result also ended a negative streak of eight games without winning during the season. Furthermore, coach Dorival Júnior won for the first time on his return to the São Paulo club.

Boston River ended its participation at the bottom of the group with just three points.
