São Paulo goes on alert for heavy rain and storms this Saturday (23)
The state of São Paulo experienced a Saturday (23) marked by instability and heavy rain in different regions, according to alerts issued by the National Institute of Meteorology (INMET). The agency placed part of the São Paulo territory in a severity level of danger for intense rains, with a forecast of accumulations of between 50 and 100 millimeters throughout the day and winds that could reach between 60 and 100 km/h.
According to the forecast for the weekend, conditions for rain showers and thunderstorms intensify in the Southeast, with emphasis on the state of São Paulo. The biggest accumulations are expected precisely in São Paulo, where there is a possibility of persistent rain throughout the day.
Among the areas under greater attention are the Metropolitan Region of São Paulo, Campinas, Vale do Paraíba, Litoral Sul, Piracicaba, Bauru, Ribeirão Preto, Araraquara, Marília, Araçatuba, São José do Rio Preto, Presidente Prudente and regions of Itapetininga and Macro Metropolitana Paulista.
In addition to the danger warning, INMET also maintains a potential danger alert for areas of the state, indicating volumes between 20 and 30 mm per hour or up to 50 mm per day, accompanied by winds of 40 to 60 km/h. Despite the lower intensity compared to the first warning, there is still a risk of urban disturbances, such as occasional flooding, falling branches and electrical discharges.
The instability is associated with the action of a meteorological trough in the middle levels of the atmosphere, combined with circulation of humidity and an area of low pressure close to the coasts of São Paulo and Paraná. This scenario favors frequent rain from the early hours of the day in areas of the interior, coast and Greater São Paulo, in addition to the risk of isolated thunderstorms and possible hail.
In the capital of São Paulo, the forecast indicates rain at any time, with moderate to heavy intensity, the possibility of thunderstorms and high accumulations. The maximum temperature should not exceed 19°C.
The authorities advise that, in case of gusts of wind, the population avoids taking shelter under trees or parking vehicles near transmission towers or advertising signs. It is also recommended to turn off electrical appliances and seek information from Civil Defense (199) and the Fire Department (193).
