São Paulo concedes a goal at the end, loses to Remo and continues without winning in the Brazilian Championship
São Paulo was defeated by Remo 1-0 this Sunday (31), at Mangueirão, in a game valid for the 18th round of the Brasileirão. The result marked the fifth consecutive match that the São Paulo team failed to win in the national league.
In an uninspired duel, both teams had few clear scoring opportunities throughout the match. Tricolor's best chances came from Artur, who stopped with good saves from goalkeeper Ivan. On Leão da Amazônia's side, Marcelinho was the scorer of the decisive goal in stoppage time.
With the stumble, São Paulo fell to eighth place, with 26 points won. After the break for the World Cup, coach Dorival Júnior's team hosts Athletico-PR, at Morumbis.
Remo reached 18th place in the Brazilian Championship, with 18 points. In the fight against relegation to Series B, the Belém club will face Corinthians in the next round, in a clash that takes place at the Neo Química Arena.
How was the game?
At the beginning of the match, São Paulo faced danger with right-back Lucas Ramon, who saved well for goalkeeper Ivan. Later, in the 20th minute, winger Artur was launched at speed, invaded the area and finished strong, but stopped after a great intervention by Ivan.
Remo only responded at the 28-minute mark, with a cross from full-back Marcelinho that midfielder Vitor Bueno sent out. At 39, midfielder Patrick stepped up and hit the post.
Before the end of the first half, Tricolor almost took the lead with Artur. He took a free kick with great skill and saw Ivan perform a miracle to avoid the visitors' goal. After the break, the game seemed quite truncated, with both teams finding it difficult to create good opportunities.
Winger Ferreira wasted a chance on São Paulo's counterattack in the 25th minute. Afterwards, winger Yago Pikachu received a free kick in the area and shot for a good save by goalkeeper Rafael. However, the referee had already pointed out that the Pará club's attempt was offside.
In the 37th minute, winger Lucca crossed just enough for center forward Jonathan Calleri to head out. Finally, Remo attempted pressure in the final moments and managed to score the winning goal with Marcelinho. Final result: 1 to 0 at Mangueirão.
