Santos friendlies in Portugal are canceled

The friendlies that Santos would play in Portugal against Vitória de Guimarães and Gil Vicente, scheduled for July, were cancelled. Joga Brasil, the company responsible for the organization, announced the decision this Tuesday (16) through an official note. The cancellation was due to the possibility of bringing forward rounds of the Brazilian Championship.

The change in the national calendar, caused by the final stretch of the World Cup, would generate a direct conflict of dates with the clashes in Portugal. Such a scenario would make logistics and team participation unfeasible, according to the organizer, who had planned the events based on the December 2025 calendar.

"In view of this scenario, Joga Brasil has already formally communicated to Santos FC, Vitória SC and the other teams involved about the impossibility of continuing with the project at this time", the company said in the note. All other Joga Brasil commitments in Portugal have also been suspended.

Joga Brasil guaranteed full refunds to all fans who had already purchased tickets for the friendlies. The 100% refund will be made through the Smartfan Tickets platform until July 3rd. The company also committed to assuming any proven financial losses suffered as a result of the cancellation.

Details of the canceled games included Santos' clash against Gil Vicente on July 8 and the match against Vitória de Guimarães on July 12. In addition to these, a training game against Santa Clara was scheduled for July 10th.
