Russian attack on Kiev leaves at least 10 injured

Russia bombed Kiev with ballistic missiles in the early hours of Saturday (11), injuring at least 10 people, officials said. Ukraine's capital awaits new supplies of air defense munitions amid a shortage that has left it vulnerable to Russian attacks.

A Reuters witness heard a series of loud explosions in the city during the early hours of the morning, before the air alert was announced.

Russia launched six ballistic missiles, another six cruise missiles and 121 drones, the Ukrainian Air Force said, adding that it shot down at least two cruise missiles and 111 drones.

Ukraine, which faces a critical shortage of ammunition for its Patriot air defense systems, has proven virtually incapable of shooting down ballistic missiles, which travel at speeds several times the speed of sound, over the past month.

Russia has intensified attacks on the capital in recent weeks. This month alone, attacks on Kiev and the surrounding region have left more than 60 people dead.

Saturday's attack damaged a non-residential building in one district, while smoke billowed from another, and an office building was on fire as a result of the attack, the city's military administration said on messaging app Telegram.

A transformer substation also caught fire, Mayor Vitali Klitschko said, while windows were blown out in some residential buildings.

The Air Force reported that a total of 11 sites were hit across Ukraine.
