Russia launches new wave of missiles and drones against Kiev and leaves at least 10 dead

Russia launched successive waves of missiles and drones against Kiev between the night of Sunday (5) and the early hours of this Monday (6), leaving at least 10 people dead, local authorities reported. The bombing occurred hours after the president of Ukraine warned that a new large-scale attack was imminent.
Another 24 people were injured, according to a publication on Telegram by Tymur Tkachenko, head of the Kiev City Military Administration. The Russian Defense Ministry said it had hit military and energy facilities in the capital as well as military airfields in several other regions of Ukraine.
According to Tkachenko, a residential building in the Podilskyi district partially collapsed. In the Darnytsia district, several multi-story buildings were damaged, and civilians are suspected of being buried under the rubble.
"These are residential buildings. Places where people slept and lived their normal lives," the official said.

The attack, which was still underway early this Monday morning, mobilized waves of ballistic and cruise missiles, as well as drones. Explosions echoed throughout the city as civilians sought shelter in metro stations.
Hours earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had warned of the imminence of a new major Russian offensive against the capital. The action comes just days after a combined attack by Russia left at least 31 dead in Kiev last week.
In a Telegram post late on Sunday, Zelensky reinforced his appeal to Western partners to strengthen Ukraine's air defense, especially by sending more Patriot missiles. According to the president, the lack of replacement of these systems encourages Russia to prolong the war, which is now entering its fourth year.

Capital faced offensive 4 days ago
This Monday's bombing expands the scenario of devastation in the Ukrainian capital, which just four days ago faced the most violent attack of the year. Last Thursday (2), a large-scale offensive that lasted 11 hours left at least 20 dead - including paramedics and ambulance drivers - and 90 injured.
On that occasion, the Ukrainian air force recorded the massive firing of 74 missiles and 496 Russian drones, which hit all 10 districts of Kiev and caused fires and severe collapses in residential areas. The low interception rate of Russian ballistic weapons has been linked by local authorities to the severe shortage of missiles for the Patriot defense system.
The Russian escalation against civilian infrastructure comes amid a long-range drone campaign promoted by Ukraine, which has targeted refineries and energy facilities on Russian territory in an attempt to choke off the neighboring country's fuel supply.
