Russian forces attacked the Ukrainian capital, Kiev, with drones on Wednesday night (1st), causing a fire in a hotel located on a central avenue and leaving debris scattered across two neighborhoods of the city.

The mayor of Kiev, Vitali Klitschko, in a post on Telegram, reported that the roof of the hotel was on fire on the central Shevchenko Avenue. Photos posted online showed an out-of-control fire at the top of the building.

Klitschko said emergency teams were sent to the scene.

Another witness said that explosions were heard in the western neighborhoods of the capital.

Klitschko said drone fragments fell in the city center and a northeast suburb.

Other photos on unofficial Telegram channels showed residents crowding into subway stations.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had previously warned that intelligence reports indicated the likelihood of an overnight attack on the country and said he was cutting short his stay in Dublin.
