Russia and China condemn US criminal charges against Raúl Castro

Raúl Castro is criminally accused in the USA of murders, destruction and conspiracy
The governments of China and Russia criticized this Thursday (21) the US criminal charges against the former president of Cuba Raúl Castro.
The 94-year-old Cuban leader was accused on Wednesday (20) of the murder of four people, conspiracy to kill American citizens and destruction of aircraft. The accusation is related to the downing of civilian planes in 1996, when Raúl was Minister of Defense.
This Thursday, the Russian government stated that it does not approve of the pressure that the United States is exerting on Cuba and said that violence should not be used against heads of state under any circumstances.
"We believe that the pressure that is being exerted on Cuba cannot be tolerated. We believe that, under no circumstances, such methods - methods of violence - should be used against former heads of state or acting heads of state", said Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, according to the RIA Novosti agency.
China denounces 'abuse of judicial means'
Earlier on Thursday (21), China denounced what it called "abuse of judicial means", in reference to the US criminal charges against Raúl Castro.
"China has always firmly opposed illegal unilateral sanctions, which have no basis in international law and (...) if opposes the abuse of judicial means. Opposes pressure exerted by external forces against Cuba, under any pretext", Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun told the press.
The spokesman added that China "firmly supports Cuba in defending its national sovereignty and dignity and opposes external interference".
