Russell wins sprint in Canada after tension at Mercedes

British George Russell won this Saturday (23) the sprint race of the Formula One Canadian Grand Prix after starting in pole position at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.

The Mercedes driver took his second sprint race victory of the season and reduced the gap to championship leader Kimi Antonelli to 18 points.

Antonelli finished the race in third place and expressed irritation after almost colliding with Russell during the fight for the lead. The Italian accused his teammate of having forced him off the track and asked for punishment over the Mercedes radio.

The complaint provoked an immediate reaction from team boss Toto Wolff. "Concentrate on driving, please, and not complaining on the radio," Wolff replied to the pilot.

Current world champion Lando Norris, from the McLaren Formula 1 Team, finished in second place after the 23 laps of the sprint. Norris had won the previous sprint race, held in Miami.
