Round of 16 of the Copa do Brasil: Fluminense and Vasco repeat the last semi-final
Fluminense and Vasco face each other again in the knockout stages of the Copa do Brasil. After deciding one of the semifinals of the last edition, now the teams duel for the round of 16 of the tournament.
The draw that defined the round of 16 clashes took place this Tuesday (26) at the CBF headquarters in Rio de Janeiro. Fluminense is the home team that counts for a place in the quarter-finals.
The games only take place after the World Cup, with the first matches on August 1st and 2nd, and the return matches on August 5th and 6th.
2025 Semifinal
The Rio classic was decisive in the last edition of the Copa do Brasil. In 2025, the teams made one of the semifinals of the tournament.
In the first game, Vasco beat Fluminense 2-1 at Maracanã. Kevin Serna opened the scoring for Tricolor, while Rayan and Vegetti scored the goals of Cruzmaltina's comeback.
In the return, Fluminense returned the result, winning 1-0, with an own goal from Paulo Henrique. With the aggregate score 2-2, the decision went to penalties and Vasco won.
Leo Jardim was decisive in the penalties, defending two kicks in the dispute and guaranteeing the classification of Vasco, who faced Corinthians in the final.
In 2006
Although the recent duel is fresher in the fans' memory, this was not the first time that Vasco and Fluminense played in a Copa do Brasil semi-final.
In 2006, the teams faced each other in the same phase of the competition and the outcome was the same, with Cruzmaltino classified.
The team, which coincidentally was also managed at the time by Renato Gaúcho, won the first game 1-0 and held on to a 1-1 draw in the return, to guarantee their place in the final.
In the decision, another Rio classic, this time against Flamengo, who were superior and took the title.
