Rope jump and bungee jump: see what the safety standards are
Publicidade

The practice of extreme sports requires strict attention to technical standards to avoid accidents. A 21-year-old woman died last Saturday morning (13), while practicing a "rope jump" activity on the Ponte do Esqueleto Trail, in Limeira, in the interior of São Paulo.

While bungee jumping is an activity regulated by ABNT NBR 16.714, rope jumping (or human pendulum) still lacks official protocols and federations that determine safety standards in the country.

Technical differences and equipment
In bungee jumping, a specific elastic rope, made of latex, is used, with redundant systems that prevent impact with the ground even if the main cable breaks.

Rope jumping usually uses common mountaineering ropes, which are not approved for the traction effort generated in this type of jump.

What to check before jumping
To ensure safety, the practitioner must confirm that the company has:

- Registration with Cadastur and active CNPJ.
- Implementation of the Safety Management System (ABNT 21.101).
- Insurance for personal accidents and qualified technical team.

Prior authorization from the competent bodies for the location of the activity is mandatory. Neglecting to maintain equipment or operating without certification can result in serious legal sanctions, including murder charges.
