Roblox begins to require children under 16 years of age in Brazil to use versions appropriate to their age; see how it will work

The Roblox gaming platform began releasing this Tuesday (15th) two new account types for children under 16 years old. The update will be available to users of the service around the world.
Players aged 9 to 15 will be directed to the Roblox Select version, and children under 9 will use Roblox Kids. Those over 16 will continue on the standard version.

The resources arrive after Roblox was targeted by authorities. In Brazil, investigations showed that the platform allowed games in support of criminal factions and simulations of attacks on schools, for example.
With the change, you will need to prove your age via selfie to open games aimed at adults. Children and teenagers will only be able to access restricted versions of the platform.

The Select and Kids versions only give access to games that have gone through a review process to ensure they are suitable for each age group. The new account types had already been launched in May for users in Australia, Indonesia, the Netherlands and New Zealand.
In addition to restricting the number of games available, the new versions limit access to chat, in an attempt to prevent inappropriate interactions between minors and adults.
According to Roblox, users who do not verify will not be able to open the standard version of the platform or chat features, regardless of age.
Selfie verification had been released in January, when it became required to grant access to the chat. The mechanism generated virtual protests, with "posters" that became memes such as "I want injustice".
The process is similar to that used to authorize transactions in banking applications. The service analyzes the selfie and then makes an estimate of your age, which can be challenged by sending your identity document.
These are the differences between the platform versions:
Roblox Kids (5 to 8 years old) has games with a minimum or light rating, chat disabled by default and a different background color so parents can quickly know if their children are on the correct version;
Roblox Select (9 to 15 years old) has games with a minimum, light or moderate rating and chat limited to trusted friends of a similar age group;
Roblox "standard" (from 16 years old) has access to all games, except those with restricted content, aimed only at people over 18 years old.
Roblox rules state that games with a minimum rating can have occasional mild violence, unrealistic blood, and mild fear. Games rated soft may include repeated mild violence and fear, heavy unrealistic blood, and mild vulgar humor.
Moderate rated games may include mild violence, vulgar humor and fear, mild realistic blood, and non-playable gambling content.
And R-rated games may have intense violence, very realistic blood, mild crude humor, romantic themes, presence of alcohol, strong language, and prolonged interactions with AI.
Change in parental controls
Roblox has resources for adults to define what children access on the platform, in addition to controlling usage time and spending on items on the platform.
With the launch of the Kids and Select versions, it will be possible to block and approve games for children up to 15 years old - until then, the limit was for children aged 12 years old.
To do this, you need to link parents' or guardians' accounts to those of children on Roblox. Here's how to do it:
Access "Settings" on the child's account;
Select "Parental Controls";
Select "Add parent";
Insert your email;
Follow the instructions to link the account.
