Rapper Rob Base, known for the hit "It Takes Two", has died at the age of 59. The information was released on the artist's social networks.

"We share the heartbreaking news that the hip hop legend passed away peacefully on May 22, 2026, surrounded by his family, after a private battle with cancer," the text reads.

He continues: "Rob's music, energy and legacy helped shape a generation and brought joy to millions of people around the world. Beyond the stage, he was a loving father, family man, friend and creative force whose impact will never be forgotten. Thank you for the music, the memories and the moments that became the soundtrack to our lives."

Days earlier, he had shared a montage on his Instagram, celebrating his 59th birthday and thanking God for being able to live another year.

The rapper, whose real name is Robert Ginyard, was part of the hip-hop duo Rob Base & DJ EZ Rock, who became known for the hit "It Takes Two", released in 1988.

The song reached #3 on the Billboard Hot Dance/Club Songs chart and was used as the basis for tracks by other artists like Snoop Dogg.
