Two civil police officers were shot during a shooting attack carried out by drug dealers in Favela do Muquiço, in Guadalupe, in the North zone of Rio de Janeiro, late this Wednesday morning (8).

According to the Civil Police, agents from the DHBF (Baixada Fluminense Homicide Police Station) were carrying out investigations in the region when they were attacked while traveling along Avenida Brasil. A team from Seppen (Secretariat of State for Criminal Police), which was traveling in a vehicle, was also the target of the shots. DHBF police officers who were nearby stopped to provide support to the agents involved.

After the attack, teams from several Civil Police units were mobilized to reinforce the action on site. The incident was still ongoing until the last update.

In a statement, the Civil Police stated that attacks against public security agents represent "a direct attack on the State" and highlighted that it will continue to act firmly and permanently in the fight against criminal factions and in the repression of crime.

The management of the Albert Schweitzer Municipal Hospital reported that two police officers who had been shot were admitted to the unit. One of the agents is in serious condition. The other officer is in stable health and remains under medical evaluation.
