Rivas Alves, pioneer of hip-hop in Brazil, dies aged 56

DJ Rivas Alves, also known as Rivas Álibi, famous for his work in hip-hop in Brazil, died last Sunday (5). He was 56 years old.

According to a note shared by the family on Instagram, the artist was diagnosed with cancer at the end of June. The disease progressed rapidly, causing a series of symptoms in recent days.

"Today we say goodbye to a great artist, whose creativity, talent, faith and sensitivity marked the lives of many people! Rivas leaves a legacy that goes beyond his art and leaves memories, inspiration and the certainty that his legacy will continue to live in the hearts of everyone who had the privilege of knowing him and following his journey. We thank everyone for the messages of support throughout this process", wrote his team.

"His career was marked by his commitment to giving voice to the outskirts of the capital and urban culture", added the artist's team.

According to the note, Rivas went to a hospital last Tuesday (30) after feeling pain in the lung region, weakness, difficulty eating and breathing.

Who was Rivas Alves?
Rivas Alves defined himself as someone who dedicated more than 40 years of his life to saving lives through hip-hop. He was active in the music scene in the Ceilândia region, in the Federal District, where he accumulated followers.

Casa do Hip Hop Ceilândia, a place co-created by the artist, announced a period of mourning for a week in honor of the DJ.

"His legacy will remain alive in our history and in everything we will continue to build", wrote the cultural center in a post on Instagram.
