Rivals this Saturday, Flamengo and Palmeiras compete for a national team player

Flamengo and Palmeiras face each other this Saturday (23), at Maracanã, in the 17th round of the Brazilian Championship. In addition to putting two of the main forces in Brazilian football face to face, the interstate classic could affect the dispute for the signing of ex-Botafogo midfielder Danilo, called up by the Brazilian team for the World Cup.

Valued in the market especially for the semester he played at Botafogo, Danilo arouses interest from Palmeiras and Flamengo, in the national market, as well as clubs abroad.

Flamengo understands that they can make a large investment in the midfielder. On the other hand, the player's preference, if he remains in Brazil, is to return to Verdão.

At 25 years old, Danilo is enjoying the highest scoring season of his career. That's ten goals in 24 games.

Remember Danilo's career
Raised in a community in Salvador, the athlete came into Palmeiras' sights after being listed by Cajazeiras for the second division of the Bahia Championship.

At Verdão, where he was revealed professionally in 2020, he played in 141 matches and scored 12 goals. Multi-champion at the São Paulo club, he was two-times Libertadores champion and champion of the Campeonato Brasileiro, Copa do Brasil and Recopa Sul-Americana.

Danilo left the team to play for Nottingham Forest, in England, in 2023, for around R$110 million. At the English club, the midfielder scored six goals and provided four assists in 62 matches.

After this spell with the English team, the midfielder returned to Brazil to play for Botafogo.

Hired last year by the Rio club, Danilo signed a contract with Alvinegro until July 2029, and the transaction was closed at 22 million euros (R$142 million) between fixed amounts, goals and bonuses.

Since arriving at Botafogo, Danilo has started to have more relevant offensive numbers.

Performance in the Brazilian National Team
After two years without being called up, the athlete stood out in the last FIFA Date. The Botafogo player scored his first goal for the Brazilian team in a friendly against Croatia in which he started.
