Right-wing monitors Raquel to try to stage a platform for Flávio in PE
The right-wing monitors the electoral steps of the governor of Pernambuco Raquel Lyra (PSD) to try to win a platform for senator and presidential pre-candidate Flávio Bolsonaro (PL) in the state.
Raquel has the support of the Pernambuco right-wing to try to be re-elected in the October election. However, she gives no guarantees that she will support Flávio. The governor keeps the situation on the back burner as she disputes the support of President Lula (PT) with her opponent, João Campos (PSB).
The governor managed to build a broad spectrum coalition, which includes the sympathy of the right, the center and even PT members - and, now, she is expecting a favorable gesture from Lula, both due to the characteristics of the Pernambuco electorate and her political history.
João Campos, in turn, is a declared Lulist and considered the official candidate of the left in Pernambuco. However, he has also sought clearer nods from the president in his favor.
This week's Datafolha survey shows that Raquel appears with 48% of voting intentions in a first round scenario, against 43% for Campos. In a second round simulation, the governor recorded 51%, while the former mayor of Recife received 44%.
Lula and Campos spoke this Thursday (28), in Brasília. The president would have reaffirmed the defense of a single PT platform around the candidate and sought to convey security to his ally in the face of the setback in the recent poll. There has not, however, been a public demonstration by Lula of immediate support only for Campos so far - which leaves Raquel also on the lookout.
The PL would like to count on Raquel's explicit support for Flávio. But, given the situation, the party considers reciprocating only with white support - a kind of implicit support from Flávio to her, also without committing too much.
"We don't want those who don't want us", sought to minimize an ally of Flávio's to CNN Brasil, although polls indicate that the pre-candidate does not have another truly viable candidate option for the government of Pernambuco.
Another factor of uncertainty for Flávio is that the PSD, Raquel's acronym, also has the former governor of Goiás Ronaldo Caiado as a pre-candidate for the Presidency.
Due to the crossroads, those around Flávio envision a campaign more focused on the support of senators and deputies. Allies minimize the projection of a reduced platform and say that all the difficulty "was already in the price" of Pernambuco's electoral design.
However, not even the names for the Senate defended by Raquel and Flávio are the same, for example.
Raquel intends to support Túlio Gadêlha (PSD) and Miguel Coelho (União Brasil) or Eduardo da Fonte (PP). However, her relationship with da Fonte is strained and the governor is also carefully monitoring the progress of investigations into possible irregularities involving amendments related to Coelho.
Flávio is alongside Anderson Ferreira (PL), although there are doubts as to whether he will actually run for the Senate.
Some of the main Bolsonaro names for federal deputy, such as Mendonça Filho (PL) and Gilson Machado (Podemos), are at the base of both Flávio and Raquel.
The articulations continue, but the tendency is for definitive decisions to only be taken closer to the party conventions, between mid-July and the beginning of August.
