Ricky Martin leaves stage after tear gas was fired at concert in Europe
Singer Ricky Martin, 54, had to interrupt a performance in Montenegro, on Thursday night (21), after a tear gas shot near the stage caused chaos among the audience. According to the Puerto Rican artist's team, he left the venue as a safety measure, but returned to complete the show as soon as the situation was under control.
The episode took place at the opening of the European leg of the "Ricky Martin Live" tour. In a statement published on Instagram, the singer's advisor, Róndine Alcalá, stated that the star and his team are "well and grateful for the shows of support and concern".
The note informs that a person threw a tear gas capsule towards the stage, leading to the immediate interruption of the performance, while spectators moved away from the area and received assistance.
"During Ricky Martin's show in Montenegro, where the artist was beginning the European leg of his 'Ricky Martin Live' tour, an individual threw tear gas towards the stage, causing the performance to come to an abrupt halt as members of the audience left the area and received assistance," the statement said.
As a preventive measure, Ricky and the entire team left the stage while security agents and local authorities acted to contain the incident and ensure the integrity of the public.
According to the musician's representative, team members recommended that Ricky not resume the performance. However, he decided to return to the stage after authorities confirmed the venue was safe.
"Although members of the artist's team recommended that the performance not continue, after confirming that the situation was under control and that spectators could return safely, Ricky Martin decided to resume the show to fulfill his commitment to his fans," the note adds.
The advisor also stated that the tour schedule will be maintained. The former singer of the band Menudo has performances planned across Europe throughout June, with dates confirmed in countries such as Croatia, Italy, Switzerland and Germany.
On the 16th, the star made a special appearance at singer Luan Santana's show, in Rio de Janeiro.
