Retatrude is effective for weight loss, study finds

Retatrutide, a new triple hormone receptor agonist (GIP, GLP-1 and glucagon), has demonstrated significant efficacy in weight loss in adults with type 2 diabetes.

The TRANSCEND-T2D-1 study, conducted at 48 medical centers in the United States, Mexico and India, followed 537 participants for 40 weeks.

Study results
The data reveal that weekly use of 12 mg of the drug promoted an average reduction of 15.3% in body weight, while the placebo group recorded only a 2.6% decrease. In maximum efficacy analyses, the loss reached 17% at the highest dose.

In addition to weight loss, the drug showed improvements in glycemic control and cardiometabolic parameters, such as reducing blood pressure and improving the lipid profile.

Safety and tolerability
The most frequent adverse effects were of a gastrointestinal nature, such as nausea and diarrhea, mostly classified as mild to moderate.

The study, funded by Eli Lilly, indicates that retatrutide has the potential to be a first-line therapy in the treatment of early-onset diabetes associated with obesity.
