Residents of São Paulo felt the reflection of an earthquake recorded in Northern Chile in the early evening of this Monday (25).
The Brazilian Seismographic Network recorded the magnitude 6.9 earthquake at 6:52 pm this Monday (25), Brasília time, at a depth of 101.3 km.
A resident of São Paulo wrote on "We felt the earthquake in Chile 9 minutes later in Vila Romana", said another resident at X.
According to the USP Seismology Center, earthquakes like this occur frequently in the Andes and, depending on the magnitude and depth, they can be felt in São Paulo. This occurs because São Paulo is in a sedimentary basin that has the characteristic of amplifying seismic waves.
Despite the scare, there are no reports of any structural damage in the city of São Paulo.
