Rescuers sent to Venezuela for humanitarian aid return to Brazil

The Civil Defense teams, firefighters, military personnel and Anatel (National Telecommunications Agency) employees sent to Venezuela for humanitarian aid returned to Brazil on Friday night (10).

Rescuers were directed to Venezuela following the earthquakes that hit the country on June 24. The professionals worked to search for possible survivors in the collapsed structures and to care for the injured in a field hospital established by Brazil in La Guaira.

The professionals were received in a ceremony at the Brasília Air Base. Members of the Civil House, ABC (Brazilian Cooperation Agency), linked to the MRE (Ministry of Foreign Affairs), and the Navy participated in the reception.

The FAB (Brazilian Air Force) aircraft deployed for the operation carried, on the way to Venezuela, 56 soldiers who will replace the professionals who left the field hospital - still in operation. The flight also transported 15 tons of medicines, medical supplies and equipment.

The number of deaths resulting from the two earthquakes in Venezuela has already exceeded 4,100, according to data released this Friday (10) by the Venezuelan government. The most recent count puts the number of injured at 16,740 and the number of homeless at 17,907.
