Report detects pellets in the body of a boy who died after eating cake in RJ
The toxicological examination of Arthur de Mello da Silva, aged 11, who died after eating a cake in São João de Meriti, in Rio de Janeiro, detected the presence of an anesthetic, sedative medication and pellets in the child's body. The boy died this Thursday (11) after spending 11 days in hospital.
According to PCERJ (Civil Police of the State of Rio de Janeiro), the report indicates the presence of lidocaine, a local anesthetic, midazolam, used as a sedative, in addition to terbufós-sulfoxide, popularly known as chumbinho.
The examination was carried out by IMLAP (Forensic Toxicology Laboratory of the Instituto Médico-Legal Afrânio Peixoto) and the results will be analyzed together with other elements gathered throughout the investigation.
Before he died, Arthur was in a coma, and, according to his family, his health appeared to be stable. The death was confirmed by the management of Ricardo Cruz State Hospital.
Also according to PCERJ, the boy's body will undergo autopsy and other measures are ongoing.

The suspicion of poisoning was raised by the family before confirming the report, after noticing characteristics compatible with the presence of pellets in the child's body.
"The only thing we know he ate before he started feeling sick was this cake, right? So, the only thing he ate was this chocolate cake", said Mayara Mello, the boy's cousin.
In a statement, the hospital management, through the Rio de Janeiro Health Department, lamented the death and expressed solidarity with the family.
"The management of the Ricardo Cruz State Hospital (HerCruz) informs that, despite all the dedication of the medical and multidisciplinary team, unfortunately the boy Arthur de Mello da Silva died last night. The management of the unit deeply regrets Arthur's death, sympathizes with the family and is available for any clarifications", says the note.
The case is investigated by the DHBF (Baixada Fluminense Homicide Police Station) and the police unit has already interviewed witnesses.
