Vasco da Gama announced this Thursday (18) the departure of coach Renato Gaúcho. The note was published this evening, on the club's official website, which said it was a decision "taken by mutual agreement".

The coach had been worn out in his role since before the World Cup break. After the 3-1 defeat to RB Bragantino in São Januário, he was insulted and hit by glasses thrown in his direction. At the end of the duel, he did not comply with the protocol of holding a press conference and was replaced by the football director, Admar Lopes, and midfielder Thiago Mendes.

"It was a regrettable night. Nothing went as planned and unfortunately we lost a game at home that could have put us in a better position in the table. Now we have to keep working and focus on qualifying on Wednesday in the South American Championship. After that, we will think about the game on Sunday, at home, in the Brazilian Championship", he lamented, after the match.

The numbers in the Brazilian Championship are not encouraging. The club occupies 17th place with just 20 points, in the relegation zone, with five wins in 18 games.
