Remember 10 LGBT+ characters who made history on streaming screens

International LGBT+ Pride Day is celebrated this Sunday (28). And, despite many years of erasure and prejudice, the community has managed to see itself increasingly represented in audiovisual productions.

Therefore, to celebrate Pride Day, CNN Brasil brought together 10 iconic characters from the small screen, who brought sensitivity, representation and identification with their stories in fiction. Check it out:

Rue, from "Euphoria"
The protagonist of "Euphoria", Rue Bennett, understands herself as a lesbian woman throughout the series, fighting against compulsory heterosexuality and experiencing her journey of discoveries during adolescence. In the plot, she gets involved with the character Jules Vaughn. Rue's sexual orientation becomes one of the guides to understanding the character's internal struggles and also her emotional dependence and substance dependence.

The character exposes the dilemmas of a young trans woman who shows the complexity of her relationships, traumas and self-acceptance. In the series, she has a relationship with Rue, with whom she experiences a deep romance, but who also represents complex dynamics of dependence and affection.

Charlie, from "Heartstopper"
Charlie Spring is a sensitive student who tries to deal with the discovery and acceptance of homosexuality. The plot portrays the challenges of bullying at school. However, it also shows how bonds guarantee support and security. In the series, Charlie relies on friends and her boyfriend Nick Nelson to overcome insecurity and taboos during adolescence.

Callie, from "Grey's anatomy"
The character Callie Torres is a doctor specializing in orthopedics who understands herself as a bisexual woman after becoming involved with doctor Erica Hahn. However, it is in her relationship with Arizona Robbins that she understands her identity as bisexual. Throughout the series, she experiences relationships with men and women and talks about acceptance, showing impasses experienced with her family.

Dani Clayton, from "The Haunting of Bly Manor"
The character is one of the most acclaimed in contemporary horror. Throughout the series "The Haunting of Bly Manor", the plot uses supernatural elements to portray the protagonist's journey of self-acceptance. During the development of the narrative, Dani Clayton deals with guilt and self-knowledge to understand herself as a lesbian woman. She builds a relationship alongside Jamie Taylor.

Robin, from "Stranger Things"
During the plot of "Stranger Things", Robin Buckley appears as the first LGBT+ character. In the 3rd season of the series, she presents herself to the public as a lesbian woman in a natural and engaging way. In the 5th season of the series, she also plays an important role by opening a dialogue with Will Byers, while the character accepts himself as homosexual.

Marceline, from "Adventure Time"
The animation "Adventure Time" is one of those cartoons that has a lot of history behind every detail of the narrative. Vampire Marceline has a romance with Princess Bubblegum. Despite the ups and downs, the couple is adored by the public. According to the plot, Marceline also had relationships with men, which suggests that the vampire is bisexual.

Eric Effiong, "Sex Education"
As it is a teenage plot, "Sex Education" portrays exactly what it is like to understand sexuality at this stage of life. Eric Effiong is one of the most beloved characters in the series. The character's sexual orientation is approached naturally. Alongside his friendship with Otis Milburn, Eric talks openly about homosexuality.

Emily Fields, "Pretty Little Liars"
Emily is a captivating character who brought the story of accepting one's sexuality to viewers. As a lesbian woman, Emily's love life and her own sexual orientation dilemmas brought realistic debates to the series' audience.

Leighton Murray, "The Sexual Life of College Girls"
The character Leighton Murray lives the dilemmas of a student heiress from New York who deals with family expectations and tries to come out as a lesbian. During her university years, she experiences her journey of self-acceptance to embrace her own identity.
