Real Madrid defender goes to the net after being left off Spain's list

The call-up of coach Luis de la Fuente, from Spain, for the World Cup is already starting to generate reactions in Spanish football.

Dean Huijsen, a Real Madrid defender who was not called up, took to social media shortly after the list was announced and published what was interpreted by the country's press as a message to the national coach.

The defender shared a post from his father, in which Huijsen appears as one of the three best-rated defenders in LaLiga this season, including in the competition's top 11 according to data from Sofascore.

"First season, not bad! Hala Madrid", said Don Huijsen, father of the Real athlete, on Instagram.

This will be the first time in the history of the World Cup that Spain will not have Real Madrid players in the squad at the World Cup.

Champions in 2010, the Spanish are in Group H alongside Cape Verde, Saudi Arabia and Uruguay.
