Real Madrid announces the signing of Portuguese Bernardo Silva, ex-City

Real Madrid announced the signing of midfielder Bernardo Silva this Wednesday (17), after the Portuguese player left Manchester City at the end of his contract.

Silva arrived at City in 2017, after a spell at Monaco, and made 460 appearances for the club, winning six Premier League titles, three FA Cups, five League Cups and one Champions League during his nine years at the Etihad Stadium.

The English club announced the 31-year-old player's departure in April.

"Real Madrid and Bernardo Silva have reached an agreement whereby he will be a Real Madrid player for the next two seasons, until June 30, 2028," the Merengue club said in a statement.

Bernardo Silva also made 109 appearances for the Portuguese national team, having won the Nations League twice.

Known for his tactical versatility, technique and dedication, he was a pillar of the City team under Pep Guardiola and will bring much-needed experience to Real Madrid's midfield.

The Spanish club are looking to strengthen themselves after a disappointing season in 2025-26, in which they lost the LaLiga title and were eliminated from the Champions League in the quarter-finals.

Real signed Spanish left-back Marc Cucurella from Chelsea earlier this week and have also been linked with defenders Ibrahima Konaté and Denzel Dumfries.
