Real Madrid officially announced, this Monday morning (15), the signing of Marc Cucurella, a left-back who was at Chelsea, in England, and is formerly of Barcelona. The new reinforcement for the season signed a contract valid until June 2032.

The acquisition of the player, who has already played for the current team's biggest rival, takes place on the same day that Spain debuts in the World Cup. Cucurella is the owner of the position in the current Spanish team.

The left-back became known for being a "boring" opponent to face. His fame is largely due to Cucurella's disposition, mainly when marking players one-on-one.

Jose Mourinho's new Real Madrid
Real Madrid are looking to strengthen after a disappointing season in 2025-26, in which they lost the La Liga title and were eliminated from the Champions League in the quarter-finals. Cucurella is the Spanish club's first signing since José Mourinho resumed coaching command.

Florentino Pérez, president of the club who won the elections again and extended his mandate for another four years, promised to reinforce Real Madrid's defensive options during his re-election campaign. There are rumors surrounding other names besides the newly signed left-back.

Cucurella was signed by Chelsea from Brighton, in 2022, for an estimated value of up to 63 million pounds, which is more than R$400 million at the current price. For the London club, he made 163 appearances. However, the player's start was not easy.

After a lackluster first season, the 27-year-old full-back established himself as a starter under the command of coach Enzo Maresca, often being used as an inverted full-back, and won the Conference League and the Club World Cup in 2025.

He has also become a key player for Spain since his debut in 2021, accumulating 23 appearances under Luis de la Fuente and winning the European Championship in 2024.
