Randy Bachman Lost the Chance to Meet Elvis Presley Due to a Fight in the Band: "I Was Devastated!"
Randy Bachman, the genius behind "Takin' Care of Business", saw Elvis Presley adopt his song as an anthem, but an internal fight in the band prevented him from realizing his dream of meeting the King of Rock!
Elvis heard the track on the radio, loved it and invited Bachman-Turner Overdrive to a meeting. Unfortunately, due to egos, musical differences and personal problems, the rest of the band didn't tell Bachman. They went alone and when Elvis asked "Where's Randy Bachman?" they said he didn't want to go.
"I was devastated when I found out," Bachman recalled. "This was the man who changed my life." It all started when he saw Elvis singing "Tutti Frutti" on TV and put down the classical violin to embrace rock.
Years later, he received as a gift a gold pendant used by Elvis as a consolation. A sad story of envy and lost opportunities in the world of 70s rock, but one that shows the mutual respect between two legends.
Bachman never forgot the King, and this story continues to move fans to this day.
