Pulisic breaks his leg in the USA's elimination and worries Milan after the World Cup
The United States' elimination from the World Cup took on an even more worrying chapter this Wednesday (9). The main player of the North American team, Christian Pulisic, had a fracture in his right leg confirmed by the United States Football Federation after the 4-1 defeat to Belgium, a result that ended the team's World Cup campaign.
In a statement released on social media, the entity reported that the attacker suffered a microfracture accompanied by a bone bruise in the region of the tibia and fibula of his right leg. According to the federation, the recovery will be carried out in conjunction with Milan, the club that owns the player's rights.
"Christian Pulisic was diagnosed with a microfracture and bone bruise to the tibia/fibula of his right leg, suffered during the match against Belgium. U.S. Soccer and AC Milan will collaborate on his recovery plan," the federation said.
There is still no confirmation about the play that caused the injury, but the suspicion is that the problem occurred at the beginning of the second half. In a shot attempt, Pulisic ended up hitting the back of the leg of Belgian midfielder Youri Tielemans instead of the ball.
The striker remained on the field for a few minutes, but left the match in the 14th minute of the final stage, shortly after Belgium scored the third goal that sent them through to the quarter-finals.
Physical problems plagued Pulisic for much of the United States' World Cup campaign. The number 10 had already suffered a calf injury in the 4-1 victory over Paraguay, on his debut, and was missing from the team against Australia, in the second round of the group stage.
Recovered, he returned to action in the second half of the match against Turkey and resumed his starting role in the 2-0 victory over Bosnia, in the knockout stage. Against Belgium, however, in addition to elimination, the striker left the tournament with a serious injury that now also worries Milan for the rest of the season.
