The state executive of the PSDB (Brazilian Social Democracy Party) of São Paulo expressed, this Monday (25), support for a possible pre-candidacy of the party's national president, federal deputy Aécio Neves (MG), for the Palácio do Planalto.

"The fact that our national president makes himself available for the dispute is important for the qualification of the political debate in this year's election and, also, for the process of reconstruction and repositioning of the party", says a note signed by the president of the state executive, the former mayor of Santo André Paulo Serra.

As CNN Brasil showed last week, members of the PSDB, Cidadania and Solidariedade started to defend Aécio's name behind the scenes to run for President of the Republic.

Last Friday (22), the National Citizenship Executive approved the idea. According to the party, the meeting was chaired by the party's national president and vice-president of the PSDB Citizenship Federation, federal deputy Alex Manente (SP).

In today's statement, the São Paulo PSDB says it is "clear that our country needs to once again have balanced, responsible and committed alternatives to Public Management, dialogue and concrete solutions to the real problems of our people".

The Tucana state executive also talks about "showing that there is 'intelligent life' outside the extreme polarization that has been dividing the nation for years and impoverishing public discussions."

Aécio Neves is in his sixth term as federal deputy. Previously, he governed Minas Gerais between 2003 and 2010 and was a senator from 2011 to 2019. In the 2014 elections, he ran for President of the Republic, but ended up defeated by Dilma Rousseff (PT).

"The State Executive of the PSDB of São Paulo expresses full support for Aécio Neves' pre-candidacy for the Presidency of the Republic in the 2026 elections.

The fact that our national president makes himself available for the dispute is important for the qualification of the political debate in this year's election and, also, for the process of reconstruction and repositioning of the party.

The PSDB-SP is clear that our country needs to once again have balanced, responsible and committed alternatives to Public Management, dialogue and concrete solutions to the real problems of our people.

It is essential for the PSDB to show that there is "intelligent life" outside the extreme polarization that has been dividing the nation for years and impoverishing public discussions. Brazil needs to get back to dealing with growth, employment, health, education, public security and state efficiency.

A pre-candidacy for the Presidency of Brazil, like that of Aécio Neves, can represent, precisely, this search for a path of consideration, experience and commitment to the future of the country."
