Berroterán was 18 years old and played for the Universidad Central de Venezuela (UCV FC). Considered one of the promises of Venezuelan football, he played matches for the national team, including in last year's U-17 World Cup.
"Today, Venezuelan football says goodbye, with immense pain, to a young man who represented, with pride, commitment and love, the colors of our country", stated the FVF.
"His departure leaves the entire Vinotinto family and an unforgettable mark on those who shared moments with him inside and outside of field."
According to local press, Berroterán's body was found in the rubble of a building that collapsed in La Guaira, the region most affected by the earthquakes.
Venezuelan vehicles also reported that the player was with his girlfriend, who also died in the collapse.
Venezuelan authorities say that more than 900 people died in Wednesday's earthquakes. The number of victims could still increase in the coming days, as rescue teams continue to search the affected areas.
