Processed eggs have the best result since 2006 in exports
Brazilian exports of processed eggs recorded the best performance for the period between January and May since the beginning of the historical series, in 2006. The result occurs amid a retraction in total egg shipments and a weaker domestic market, marked by slowing demand and falling prices.
Data from Secex (Secretariat of Foreign Trade), compiled by Cepea (Center for Advanced Studies in Applied Economics), show that Brazil exported 12.39 thousand tons of fresh and processed eggs in the first five months of 2026. The volume represents a drop of 32.5% compared to the same period last year, when shipments totaled 18.36 thousand tons.
In May alone, exports totaled 2.18 thousand tons, a decrease of 5.7% compared to April and 59% compared to May 2025.
Despite the reduction in the total volume exported, processed eggs gained space in the export agenda. Between January and May, Brazil shipped 3.99 thousand tons of this category, equivalent to 32% of national egg exports.
According to Cepea researchers, this is the largest share of processed products in foreign sales for the period since 2006, indicating a gradual change in the profile of Brazilian exports in the sector.
While shipments show a greater presence of value-added products, the domestic market faces a weaker demand scenario. According to a survey by Scot Consultoria, after a first fortnight marked by positive readjustments, the market lost strength in recent weeks.
The consultancy points out that more restrained consumption forced retailers to carry out promotions to maintain the turnover of goods, putting pressure on prices throughout the chain.
On farms in São Paulo, the price of a box with 30 dozen eggs fell 3% during the week, being sold, on average, at R$ 131.50. In wholesale terms, the drop was 2.9%, with the box traded at R$ 136.00, on average.
According to Scot, the drop in temperatures has prevented more intense devaluations, since the colder climate increases the durability of eggs and reduces the pressure for immediate sales. Still, the expectation for the short term is that a weakened market will continue, with limited demand and pressured prices.
