Warning signs
The religious man reported that the problems became evident when the bride presented a list of 13 demands made by the groom, detailing changes that she must make for the marriage to take place.
When questioned by the priest, the man stated that he did not need any changes in his own conduct.
In addition to the lack of reciprocity, the priest listed other worrying behaviors:
- Excessive family influence: The groom's mother directly interfered in the courtship.
- Social isolation: The man avoided coexistence with the bride's family, prioritizing only his own family nucleus.
- Resistance to dialogue: The groom demonstrated that he was not very open to conversations and was resistant to recognizing flaws.
Outcome and positioning
Given the scenario, the cleric said he advised the young woman not to schedule the ceremony until the conflicts were resolved. The couple ended up ending their relationship, a decision that the priest classified as a "deliverance" for the woman.
An expert in emotional intelligence, Shankar argued that it is preferable to break off an engagement than face years of suffering in an unprepared marriage.
