PRF breaks record by seizing 26 rifles, including AK-47, of Russian origin

The PRF (Federal Highway Police) made the institution's largest seizure of rifles, on the afternoon of Wednesday (17), when it seized 26 rifles during an operation on BR-277, in the city of Santa Terezinha do Itaipu, in Paraná.

Among the weapons, two were of Russian origin, from the Kalashnikov family, known as AK-4. The region is close to the border with Paraguay. The truck carried 26 rifles and 16 pistols.

The Russian weapon is known for its low cost and reliable handling even in any weather condition, being the weapon most used in the world by factions and guerrillas.

The approach took place around noon, when police officers approached a driver who was driving a vehicle loaded with animal feed. The truck's destination was Minas Gerais and had left Argentina.

According to the PRF, the suspect was nervous about the approach and ended up carrying weapons.

- 26 rifles (22 5.56 mm caliber and four 7.65 mm caliber);
- 898 7.62 mm caliber ammunition;
- 16 pistols (14 9 mm caliber and two .40 caliber);

The PRF took the suspect to the Federal Police, in Foz do Iguaçu, to register the crime of international arms trafficking, the man could face up to 16 years in prison.

The PRF's record seizure previously occurred in Rio de Janeiro, in August 2020.
