Romeu Tuma Júnior, president of the Deliberative Council (CD) of Corinthians, granted a suspensive effect to the expulsions of Valmir Costa and Claudinei Alves, two former directors of the Corinthians base during the management of Augusto Melo, which lasted from January 2024 to May 2025. The information was initially released by Meu Timão.

The decision, signed last Wednesday (1). Both, who had already been judged and expelled by the Associates' Ethics Committee (EC), have already presented their defenses while the appeal is being processed internally. The duo was removed from the Corinthians membership after having participated in the event on May 31, when partners and advisors allied with Augusto Melo invaded the presidency room trying to replace him in the president's chair.

In the documents, to which the Meu Timão report had access, Romeu Tuma Júnior argues that the appeals presented by both were within the deadline and, based on article 37 of the Bylaws and article 15 of the Internal Regulations of the Deliberative Council, the duo had the suspensive effect granted until the final judgment, without any analysis of merit at this stage.

Part of the reasoning for the decision was made through an alert regarding the progress of disciplinary processes at Corinthians. According to Tuma, the appeals of members punished by decisions of the Ethics Committee have been paralyzed for a long time, citing as examples two cases without specifying them, which had been awaiting deliberation for more than ten years since his arrival as president of the CD in February 2024.

In view of this, for Tuma Júnior, such a delay would make a punishment applied by the EC definitive while, in practice, an appeal presented within the right period should have a final analysis of the penalty in the plenary of the Deliberative Council. As a result, this measure would be harming the members' ability to defend themselves, according to the decision.

The order also talks about the situation of the dependents of Valmir Costa and Claudinei Alves. According to the president of the CD, when the punishment of expulsion directly applied to the titles of the former directors of the Corinthians base, the effects of the penalty were extended to dependents, who were not involved in the acts that were carried out.

In this way, Romeu Tuma Júnior questions the Corinthians administrative board about what was done to preserve the rights of dependents. According to Meu Timão, the answer was that there is no stipulated rite for this scenario. The order, finally, requests that the two processes involving the former directors be sent to the Ethics Committee of the Deliberative Council and, according to the portal, this action has already been taken.

From this point on, the EC will analyze the merits of the appeals, but is not obliged to reinstate the processes and can, at any time, make a decision whether or not it agrees with the opinion already made on both cases. After this phase, a specific opinion will need to be issued so that the CD can be convened and analyze Claudinei and Valmir's resources. If the counselors agree to such appeals, their expulsion will be annulled. In case of disagreement, the exclusion of the pair from the membership will be ratified.
