The president of Paraguay, Santiago Peña, declared a national holiday this Tuesday (30), one day after the country's team eliminated Germany and qualified for the round of 16 of the World Cup.
Fans from all over the country filled the streets to celebrate the victory on penalties after a 1-1 draw against the German team in the regulation time, a score that was maintained until the end of extra time.

"Today, an entire country celebrates. It celebrates the victory of a team that represents the deepest part of our identity: the determination, faith and strength of a people who never surrender. Thank you, Albirroja, for presenting us with this immense joy and for once again uniting millions of Paraguayans under the same flag", wrote Peña, on the social network X, when announcing the decree.
In one of the biggest upsets of the 2026 World Cup, Paraguay won the penalty shootout 4-3 after six penalties against Germany.
