The president of Corinthians, Osmar Stabile, is in the United States participating in a program organized by the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF). The event brings together Brazilian club directors for a series of activities aimed at studying sports management models adopted in North American leagues, with emphasis on Major League Soccer (MLS).

In contact with the Meu Timão portal, the black and white president commented on his presence abroad and responded to questions raised on social media after being seen watching the 1-1 draw between Brazil and Morocco, a match valid for the first round of Group C of the World Cup, played last Saturday, at the New York/New Jersey Stadium.

"I came to New York for work and I thought it was important to share some reflections, since, even though I was in the USA, I remained committed and active in my institutional roles. It is often not necessary to be physically present to sign documents or negotiate with our current partners. Technology and administrative mechanisms allow efficient management at a distance. However, on this specific trip, there was an exceptional case linked to the World Cup, which required an immersion of the CBF and led me to be present here in person", he began in exclusive contact.

The trip takes place precisely at a time of administrative challenges for Corinthians. In recent days, the club has started to deal with different financial and legal issues involving negotiations carried out in professional football.

Among them is the transfer ban punishment applied due to the delay in paying a portion of the signing of midfielder José Martínez from the Philadelphia Union. Furthermore, Timão was ordered by FIFA to compensate New York City FC with 850 thousand dollars, an amount related to Talles Magno's loan. The club appealed the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

Another topic that remains on the agenda behind the scenes is the delay in payment for the month of May for employees hired under the legal entity regime, in addition to members of the professional cast and technical committee.

Negotiations with Talleres, from Argentina, for the purchase of Rodrigo Garro's rights also remain open. Corinthians needs to pay off around 7 million dollars net by next Tuesday, the 16th, to avoid new complications involving the operation.

To make payment possible, the board closed a financial transaction with the company OutField. The agreement provides for the immediate transfer of the necessary resources, but will increase the debt to approximately 8.5 million dollars, an amount that will be paid off in 26 monthly installments.

The model approved by the Guidance Council also provides for the incidence of interest equivalent to the CDI plus 1% per year, an index that currently hovers around 15.4% per year.

When talking about his participation in the event promoted by the CBF, Stabile highlighted that the trip's main objective is to expand institutional and commercial connections in an environment that brings together representatives of important sports organizations.

"I came with the clear objective of taking advantage of this opportunity to find strategic partners, especially given the repercussion and global reach of the event. We cannot think small in the face of occasions like this. It is essential to have a broad vision, as the chance to establish alliances and strengthen future commercial relationships is unique. It is worth remembering that of the most important clubs in Brazil, almost all of them were represented here by their presidents, showing how much physical presence can make a difference in new negotiations and institutional alliances. Therefore, I would like to emphasize the importance of not underestimating the value of these moments, even for experienced and established people. Being present in key locations can open doors that, from a distance, would be very difficult to access", he concluded.

Last Friday, the delegation made up of directors from Series A and B teams participated in an official visit to the MLS headquarters. The initiative aimed to present Brazilian clubs with aspects of the administrative and commercial functioning of the main football league in the United States.

According to the CBF, one of the focuses of the discussions was related to the strategies used by the MLS to attract internationally renowned athletes, such as Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez, in addition to the model that allows the participation of former players as investors and franchise partners, such as David Beckham at Inter Miami.

On Saturday, Brazilian representatives followed activities related to the World Cup and also learned about management practices adopted by other North American sports leagues.

The exchange is part of a broader project developed by the CBF throughout 2026. At the beginning of the year, the entity had already taken Brazilian directors on technical visits to the Premier League, the Bundesliga and La Liga, with the aim of observing different administration models applied to international football.
