Presidential candidate Ronaldo Caiado (PSD-GO) stated this Tuesday (7) that asking for the postponement of tariffs announced by the United States until after the elections creates a "false positive" for the Brazilian population.


The statement comes after senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ) participated, in the United States, in a public hearing on the so-called tariff.


"I don't know Flávio Bolsonaro's line of reasoning. I'm 100% against it and our concern is Brazil as a whole, not an electoral period. We can't create a false positive for the population, that is: we won't be taxed until the election? Then will we accept it? No!", said Caiado.

Flávio participated this Tuesday in a hearing organized by the USTR (Office of the United States Trade Representative), after forwarding an 86-page document to the American authorities.


In the material, sent on July 1st, the senator calls for the suspension of tariffs for 90 days, arguing that the measure could politically strengthen President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT).


Earlier, when questioned by journalists about this position, Flávio stated that he defended the cancellation of the tariffs, and not just the postponement: "Lula is the one who wants the tariff, so we have to use political arguments here. [I want] cancellation."
