On the afternoon of last Wednesday (17), Corinthians hosted Vitória, at the Alfredo Schürig Stadium, Fazendinha, in a match for the 16th round of the classification phase of the 2026 Brazilian Under-20 Championship, and beat their opponent 2 x 1. With the result, Filhos do Terrão jumped from tenth to eighth place in the national tournament with 25 points - seven wins, four draws and five defeats - 27 goals scored and 21 conceded. It is worth noting that only the top eight advance to the quarterfinals.
The three points also moved Corinthians' Under-20 scoring rankings this season. Midfielder Luiz Gustavo Bahia, who scored from the penalty spot in the 21st minute of the first half, matched striker Luiz Fábio 'Favela' and scored his third goal in 15 matches this year. The number 5 is seen as one of the team's main leaders and returned to the category at the beginning of 2026 to gain more minutes, as he had not been used frequently in the professional game. Both only have fewer goals scored than Luizinho and Iago Machado.

Luiz Fernando, who scored in the 42nd minute of the final stage, after catching the remainder of a table between midfielders Guilherme Pires and Gui Amorim, opened up an even greater advantage in Timãozinho's goalscoring list. The main highlight of the category so far, he reached 12 goals scored in 22 matches in 2026, an average of more than half a goal per match.
For comparison purposes, in 2025, the number 11 was also the Parque São Jorge club's top scorer in the category with 10 goals in 39 matches. The runner-up was Bahia, who found the net nine times in 26 matches. He was part of the professional squad from the second semester onwards. In the main team, currently, the only athlete with Luiz Fernando's characteristics - speed and dribbling - is Kaio César.
In the midst of a FIFA transfer ban, coach Fernando Diniz can count on a home alternative for the second half of the year, if the athlete maintains his good performance on the field. The winger's contract with Corinthians ends in December 2027. For the Under-17 and 20 categories, there are 43 goals in 139 matches. In 2023, he was part of the U17 state champion squad, against São Paulo, in Fazendinha.
Now, Corinthians keeps its focus on the national competition. This is because, next Saturday (20), they will face Cruzeiro, at CT Toca da Raposa, away from home, in the 17th round of the first phase of the tournament. A positive result could bring Timão closer to qualifying for the quarter-finals. The team from Minas Gerais is in fifth place with 28 points.
