Police target group that used beauty salons to sell weight loss products

The Civil Police of Paraná carried out an operation against a group suspected of using a beauty salon and a thrift store to sell weight loss medicine. The action, which took place this Tuesday (2), in Castro, in Campos Gerais (PR), seized 200 bottles of weight-loss medicines and 1,400 electronic cigarettes.

According to the police, two people were arrested and six search and seizure warrants were executed at homes and commercial establishments in the city, including a beauty salon and a thrift store used in the scheme.

In addition to medicines and electronic cigarettes, syringes, cash, financial records and card machines used in sales were also seized at the addresses.

Investigations indicate that the group operated in a structured manner, with division of tasks involving import, transportation, storage and sale of medicines.

According to delegate Marcondes Alves Ribeiro, the suspects also used social networks and groups of messaging applications "to attract customers, including offering discounts upon referral".

Those investigated, arrested for forgery, corruption and alteration of a product intended for therapeutic or medicinal purposes, were charged and sent to the penitentiary system.

The seized materials will be examined and subsequently destroyed.
