Police recover more than R$1 million in stolen machines and arrest 5 in SP

A gang specializing in the theft of faceting machines, used in the manufacture of lenses for prescription glasses, was the target of an operation by the São Paulo Civil Police this Wednesday (10). In total, five members of the group were arrested and six pieces of equipment, valued at around R$230,000 each - that is, more than R$1 million - were seized.

The action, called Operation Vision, was carried out in the regions of Brás, Cidade Tiradentes and Guarulhos. In addition to the equipment and arrests, the police seized R$31,000 in cash and the suspects' cell phones.

The investigations began after the theft of one of the machines from an establishment in Cidade Tiradentes, in the east zone. According to the SSP-SP (Public Security Secretariat), the criminals pretended to be maintenance technicians and convinced the victim to transport the equipment to be repaired. Upon arriving at the agreed location, she was captured and the machine was stolen.

The case was referred to the Court, which issued six temporary arrest warrants and ten search and seizure warrants.

During the operation this Wednesday (10), the agents located the equipment in a laboratory specialized in the production of spectacle lenses, located in the region of Rua 25 de Março, in the center of the capital of São Paulo. Among the machines recovered was the one stolen in the case that gave rise to the investigation.

The seized material will be taken for expert analysis. The suspects were taken to the police station and remain in custody.
