Police officer is killed by friend after fight over gate raid in Paraná

Military police officer João Ezequiel Batista Pereira was killed, on Sunday night (28), by a friend who didn't like the way the victim knocked on the gate of his residence in Cascavel, Paraná.

According to the case's delegate, Fabiano Moza, João had gone to pick up his wife who was at the suspect's house. On site, there was a notice explaining that the intercom was not working and that, therefore, it was necessary to knock on the gate.

However, the suspect told the police that João kicked the protective structure. The two still argued and the suspect fired into the air before hitting his friend.

According to the police, the two men were armed and the ammunition used in the crime was legal to carry.

The victim was shot three times, one in the face, one in the skull and one in the back. Four gunshot fragments were found in the backyard of the residence - all from the suspect, according to the police chief.

The author stated that he acted in self-defense. However, police authorities concluded that, based on the number of shots fired, this justification could not be considered.

The police had access to images from security cameras and were able to determine the dynamics of the crime.

The man was arrested and is in custody at the Cascavel Public Prison. The case is treated as a qualified homicide for futile reasons.
