Police investigate gang specializing in theft of rare cars in SP
Police officers from Deic (State Department of Criminal Investigations) carried out, on the morning of this Monday (2), an operation against a gang specializing in theft of rare cars belonging to collectors in the capital of São Paulo.
Named "Operation Herbie", the action focuses on investigating the theft of two Beetles considered rare, taken from a company specializing in car restoration in the west zone of São Paulo. According to police, each vehicle is valued at around R$50,000.
The name of the operation refers to Herbie, the famous Beetle who became known worldwide after starring in a series of films.
During the operation, agents carried out search and seizure warrants at five addresses located in the South and West zones of the city.
According to investigations, the criminals used a black BMW X1 to reach the restorer. The images and surveys carried out by investigators indicate that the group initially stole a beige Beetle and left the scene.
About 30 minutes later, the suspects returned and took a second vehicle, this time blue.

Investigations indicate that the thefts may be part of an organized scheme to supply rare vehicles to collectors and recipients. The police are working on the hypothesis that at least three people participated in the crime.

The objective of the operation is to gather new evidence, identify the perpetrators of the thefts, possible co-authors and recipients involved in the sale of the vehicles.
The action is coordinated by the 3rd Divecar Police Station (Division of Investigations into Criminal Dismantling).
