Polar air mass brings frost and drops temperatures in southern Brazil

Cities in the three southern states of the country woke up to negative temperatures this Wednesday morning (8). A mass of polar air that acts over the region maintains the intense cold.

The municipality of Bom Jardim da Serra, in the Santa Catarina mountain range, recorded the lowest minimum among the three states, with -6.1ºC. In Urupema and São Joaquim, the thermometers read -4.9 ºC. In Urubici, - 3.5 ºC.

In Rio Grande do Sul, the minimum temperature was recorded in Santana do Livramento, on the Western Front, at -2.4 ºC. In Getúlio Vargas, it was -2.2 ºC. In São José dos absentes, in the fields above the Serra, the thermometers registered -1.4 ºC.

In Paraná, the coldest city was General Carneiro, where it was -2.3 ºC. In Palmas, it was also cold below zero: - 1.1 ºC.

In addition to the cold, several cities were also hit by severe frost. Landscapes dawned literally frozen with vegetation and cars covered in ice.

During the afternoon of this Wednesday, temperatures should rise gradually, but remain mild. Maximum temperatures should be between 15°C and 20°C.
