PF seizes trunk of Asian elephant in antiques store in Rio
A piece that corresponds to an Asian elephant trunk was seized by the Federal Police, this Tuesday (9), in Rio de Janeiro. The object, without authentic documentation, was in an antique shop in the center of the capital.
According to the PF analysis, the piece appears to be part of an exotic wild animal and subject to international trade control.
At the time of inspection, no authentic documentation was presented proving the origin of the piece, regular import or authorization from the competent bodies.
Thus, the piece was seized and must be subjected to expert analysis, to confirm the nature, species of the animal and other characteristics relevant to the investigation.
In addition, a police investigation was launched to investigate the crimes of smuggling and reception. The investigation must clarify the origin of the item, how it entered the national territory, the chain of possession, any documentation related to the import and the circumstances of its display or offer for sale in the establishment where it was seized.
