PF investigates Navy land grabbing on the Maraú peninsula

The Federal Police and the Federal Public Ministry launched, this Wednesday (3), operation Chancelas, which investigates crimes related to fraud in registrations and the grabbing of Union lands in the municipality of Maraú, in the south of Bahia, and region.

The investigations began following reports of irregularities in real estate records involving areas classified as marine land and its additions, assets owned by the Union.

The PF says that such areas were being improperly registered as private properties, through the use of fraudulent procedures within the property registry office.

During the course of the investigation, they identified evidence of the use of irregular georeferencing, deliberate omission of Union ownership in registrations and successive break-ups of properties, with the aim of artificially expanding areas and giving the appearance of legality to the occupation and economic exploitation of public lands.

The investigations indicate that fraudulent registrations enabled the commercialization of Union areas, including beach areas and common use by the people, causing damage to federal public assets.

Evidence of joint action between public and private agents was also identified, using records to obtain economic advantages, including the sale of properties and attempts to regularize them before federal agencies based on irregular information.

In the operation, six search and seizure warrants are being executed in the municipalities of Maraú, Camamú and Cairú issued by the Federal Court.

Those under investigation may be held liable, to the extent of their responsibilities, for the crimes of ideological falsehood, use of false documents, invasion of Union lands, embezzlement, in addition to other criminal offenses that may be identified during the course of the investigations.
