PF indicts head of ANM in investigation into illegal mining

The Federal Police indicted the general director of the National Mining Agency (ANM), Mauro Henrique Sousa, in an investigation into an alleged illegal mining scheme in Minas Gerais.

The corporation claims that the head of the municipality was part of a criminal organization that promoted the illegal exploitation of iron ore in Serra do Curral.

"The claims of environmental recovery were used as formal support to enable the extraction, processing, logistics and commercialization of ore that did not comply with legal limits", says the PF.

In a note, the ANM says that it was not notified of the indictment and that it "remains at the disposal of the competent authorities to provide any information requested as part of the investigations".

"ANM reiterates that it acts in the exercise of its legal and regulatory powers and adopts the appropriate measures whenever formally requested or when situations are identified that require action within the scope of its activities", it states.
