Petrobras changes natural gas calculation and readjustment could fall from 22% to up to 6%

Petrobras approved a new mechanism to calculate the price of natural gas sold to state distributors. According to the company, the change could limit the adjustment scheduled for August 1st to up to 6%, below the 22% increase previously estimated.

According to the state-owned company, the measure seeks to reduce the effects of fluctuations in international prices on natural gas customers.
After being sold by Petrobras to state distributors, natural gas is distributed through piped networks to homes, companies and industries, in addition to supplying thermoelectric plants. If the adjustment is passed on by distributors, the impact could reach consumers served by this system. The kitchen cylinder (LPG) is not part of this measure.
To this end, Petrobras will consider a minimum and maximum range for the price of Brent oil when calculating the gas sales price.
According to the company, this range will act as a limit for variations caused by the international market.
The mechanism will be optional and will only apply to customers who adhere to the change through amendments to gas supply contracts.
