Personal insurance market raises R$ 20 billion in the 1st quarter and grows 10%
The personal insurance market started 2026 expanding in Brazil, according to data from Fenaprevi (National Federation of Private Pensions and Life) which show that the segment collected R$20.3 billion in premiums in the first quarter of the year - growth of 10% compared to the same period in 2025.
The result represents around R$2 billion more in the annual comparison and was mainly driven by insurance against serious illnesses, which registered an increase of 21% in the period.
There were also relevant advances in educational insurance, with growth of 20.5%, and credit life insurance, which rose 17.7%.
Life insurance, in individual and collective modalities, accounted for 48% of all collections in the segment between January and March. Credit life products represent 30% of the total, while personal accident insurance accounts for 12%.
According to the president of Fenaprevi, Edson Franco, the sector's growth follows the improvement in economic indicators, such as income and employment, but financial protection still reaches a small portion of the population.
According to Franco, only 18% of Brazilians over 18 years of age have life insurance.

The survey also points to an increase in the amounts paid in compensation to policyholders and beneficiaries. In the first quarter of 2026, claims totaled R$4.4 billion, an increase of 4.9% compared to the same period in the previous year.
Among products, payments linked to insurance against serious illnesses grew 24.2%, while individual life indemnities increased 19.7%.
Life insurance accounted for 53% of payments made in the period. Credit life insurance accounted for 22% of compensation, and personal accident products accounted for 11%.
